Achy Joints
Posted on September 3, 2020

Joint pain is one of the top complaints across America. There are many different causes of joint pain, and it can occur in so many parts of the body that patients often feel their joints are the main issue they face. This may or may not be the case! Joint pain is often caused by joint inflammation. Inflammation in any part of the body is a natural and helpful immune response. Your body senses an injury or what it classifies as a threat and ‘puffs up’ to protect itself. However, often the underlying issue isn’t in the joint itself at all, but actually in the spine. Vertebral subluxations are misalignments in the vertebrae of the spine that hinder your brain from communicating properly with the rest of the body. These communication errors often lead to extra stress being placed on joints such as knees, wrists, and ankles, causing our body to send out its immune response-inflammation. A classic example of this is osteoarthritis, but it can result in rheumatoid arthritis as well.

In addition to vertebral subluxations leading to inflamed joints and causing pain, certain types of food can do the same. This month our office wants to help patients focus on dietary health and wellness alongside chiropractic care. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more information on this, but for now here are some key foods that cause inflammation throughout the body, particularly in joints: processed sugar, trans fats, refined flour, gluten, and alcohol are all major issues for our bodies, but most likely they exist in your everyday diet to some degree. Working to eat more whole/real foods and steering clear of processed food is an excellent place to start to lower your bodies immune response and fight joint pain.

Pairing good nutrition with chiropractic care can lessen and eliminate joint pain altogether! As Dr. Dickason works to identify and correct vertebral subluxations through chiropractic adjustments patients find themselves with less stress on the wrong parts of their bodies and with less inflammation in those sensitive joint areas! Come see us today to get your joints moving as freely and fully as they are designed to and get yourself back on the road to living life to your fullest potential!

Pain Management
Posted on August 10, 2020

Pain is one of the major reasons that patients decide it is time to visit the chiropractor. From headaches, to neck pain, to back pain, all the way down to the legs and feet, pain can be absolutely debilitating. The market today is full of pain relievers known as non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs. Many of these popular pain killers might likely line your medicine cabinets at home, but recently the FDA updated its warning for NSAIDs saying that they increase chances of heart attack, stroke, and gastro-intestinal issues by 200 to 400 percent. These painkillers are the most used pharmaceutical in America, according to the FDA, and yet they pose such a huge risk to long-term health and wellness. So why are NSAIDs where patients turn? What are the oother options?

NSAIDs are designed to be anti-inflammatory, which is why they are used to relieve pain quickly; but quick relief and long-term healing are quite different. At our office we don’t just want to help you treat painful symptoms, we want to discover underlying problems and treat those conditions so you are able to live your life to the fullest without reoccurring pain. Long term it has been shown that there are more complications and a greater potential for pain from using NSAIDs than there are positive effects. Additionally, studies have shown that patients who take NSAIDs actually heal slower than patients who treat the same symptoms with natural nutrients.

But what are natural nutrient options? Optimal Health Systems Acute complex is a great example of what supplements we recommend to treat symptoms of pain in your body while simultaneously healing the underlying causes. OHS Acute, alongside chiropractic care, not only relieves pain in all different parts of your body but also allows your body to heal more quickly on a cellular level. We are proud to offer this type of support and our hope is that as more and more of our patients walk away from NSAIDs and over-the-counter pharmaceutical pain-killers, that products like Acute will help them realize their body’s potential healing power!
