Neck Pain Relief

At any given point in time the predominance of neck pain is about 9% for the adult male, and 12% for the adult female population. Neck pain affects 45% of today’s workers; it is something that everyone deals with at some point in their life. The neck is very mobile, it has a wide range of flexibility, and with this flexibility there is a decrease in stability and protection. With this being stated, your neck is at a high risk for pain. In most cases the pain experienced in the neck and shoulder area stem from injuries to the soft tissues, muscles, tendons and ligaments. These injuries can occur from whiplash, injuries, aging, or simply daily life.

Daily Life

Everyday life can take a toll on your body. Stress and emotional tension can cause your muscles to contract and stiffen. Sleeping wrong is also a part of daily life that can cause neck stiffness. Daily activity or inactivity can cause pain in the sensitive neck area.
Just the way you are living can be a major factor in neck pain. Obesity, poor posture, all the way down to weak abdominal muscles can cause your neck to ache.

Aging

Aging is inevitable, though you would like to think you are still young at heart your body is aging over time, whether it be slow or fast. When life starts to catch up with you, you may experience osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, or degenerative disc disease. Over time your neck loses its flexibility, elasticity, and ability to absorb shock. If these are things that you believe could be a cause of your neck pain, Dr. Dickason at Dickason Chiropractic can relieve the pain of these ailments.

Injury

Whiplash is the number one injury to the neck. This occurs when there is a sudden forced movement of the head or neck. There is a “rebound effect” associated with whiplash. The supporting tissue of the neck can be injured during the “whipping” motion of whiplash.  In such a quick motion, the neck experiences muscle contraction and tightening. Most commonly, whiplash is associated with car accidents. If this is not the case, head injuries are associated with whiplash as well. If you think about it, your head is held up by your neck, so an injury to your head could cause pain in your neck.
