Headeaches & Migraine Relief in Castle Rock, CO

It is projected that 47% of the adult population have experienced headaches at least once within the last year in general. Headaches are the most common disorders of the nervous system, so most people consider them to be "normal". This is not the case however, it is not "normal" for our bodies to be in pain, no matter how common the pain is. There are many ways in which a headache can be experienced. The pain can be felt behind your eyes; there can be a pounding that can make you feel like your head is going to explode. Some people feel nauseous. The pain can be dull, or sharp, and the pain can last for a few minutes or a few days. There are many reasons for headaches. Some include drug reactions, tightness, low blood sugar, high blood pressure, stress, fatigue and vertebral subluxations. With these causes there are three main types that most people experience; tension, migraine, and cluster.

Tension Headaches

Tension headaches are the most common type of headache. This affects 75% of all those who suffer from headaches. It is associated with a dull, achy feeling that targets either one side or both sides of your head. These headaches typically begin slowly and can last or a few minutes or a couple of days and is described as a band around your head. They can also be referred to as stress headaches because a main contributing factor to this specific headache is stress. Bad posture can cause stress on the spine and the muscles in your upper back. Stress also relates to the stresses of daily life. The tension headache will affect three women to every two men.

Migraine Headaches

Migraine pain typically occurs on one side of the head and is described as an intense pain. Migraines can also be associated with visual disturbances, numbness in the face, nausea, vomiting, and even speech difficulties. There are many triggers to a migraine headache. They include stress, hormones (in women), certain foods, and subluxations at the base of the skull.

Cluster Headaches

This is the third most common headache that people experience. It is not as common as tension or migraine but it still affects six men to each woman (this is more common in men than women). It is characterized by frequent recurring, brief but extremely severe headaches. They are associated with symptoms that include pain around the eyes with tearing and redness. Your nose may run and be blocked on the side of the affected area and your eyelid may droop. This kind of headache can be characterized in chronic and episodic forms. The reason for the name 'cluster' headache is because they occur one to four times in a single day. Like a migraine, cluster headaches are likely to be related to a dilation of the blood vessels in the brain, causing increase in intracranial pressure.
